MAHA Logo ImageThe Michigan Academy of Healing Arts, originally founded by Sue Burton-Hidalgo in 1988, was based in North Carolina and now in Michigan. We are dedicated to providing high quality classes for participants who wish to to develop and integrate metaphysical skills into a holistic healing practice, as well as the public seeking personal growth. Instruction is designed to work with students at any level and advance them to a high degree of capability.

"Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire." —Teilhard de Chardin

The word "academy" comes from the word academe which was the name of the grove near ancient Athens where Plato taught. The word "healing" means "to make whole." The word "art" comes from an Indo-European word that means "to grow or cultivate." The Academy of Healing Arts is a place where people are taught how to cultivate wholeness. The Academy began in 1988 in North Carolina, and as Sue has moved to Michigan has been rebirthed as the Michigan Academy of Healing Arts.

Most people are whole when they are born. They actually have to be taught how to be "un-whole" by suppressing parts of themselves in order to get along in the world. This self-repression results in disease. To become whole, this process must be reversed, so that the repressed parts of Self can be reclaimed and wholeness restored. The catalyst for this reversal is love. The Michigan Academy of Healing Arts teaches people to love themselves, so they can then teach others how to love themselves, and so on.

Happily, the by-product of self-love is brotherly love. This is because the Self is an expression of the Source. Hence, loving the Self is becoming whole—one with the Source. It then follows that everyone else is "an-other" expression of the Source and we are all One. When this process is complete, everyone on the planet will be whole, and there will no longer be any need to teach love. Then, the Michigan Academy of Healing Arts will become obsolete. Until that time, we will be dedicated to this purpose."

Primary Light - Energy Balancing

Primary LightSymbols are potent tools for working the human aura. In the healing method called Reiki symbols are used for creating a permanent attunement and for individual healing sessions. Reiki symbols have a deep origin in Sanskrit and in Buddhist healing methods such as Tibetan Bon Buddhist Medicine. The Bon tradition is perhaps the oldest branch of Tibetan Buddhism, and is shamanistic in nature.

Chinese traditional medicine works with the meridians and the five elements (fire, earth, air, water, metal) that rule our organs and our constitution (physical, mental, and emotional). The five elements are also the basics of the Ayurvedic Medicine tradition out of India. India is home of Sanskrit and Buddhism. The word chakra IS a Sanskrit word, and is the only word we have for the flowering vortices that are essential to our aura and to our human form (the body is the 1st layer of the aura).

Out of her knowledge of Bon, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki, and other healing methods, Sue Burton-Hidalgo has developed a new method called Primary Light. The elements, chakras, and symbols are building blocks of our aura. We will do energywork sessions on class members, gaining direct access to the field to work with symbols on the chakras and organs. You will leave the class with a workbook, a set of stone tools, and the skill to work on others and self.

REIKI I

Reiki I LogoReiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a Japanese term which means "universal life energy," the energy inherent to all living beings which keeps us alive, the "Creative Force." First degree Reiki is the basic introduction. It includes four "tunings" or energy activating sessions which enable the student to channel Reiki energy to others. This degress also includes simple lessons in physiology, a demonstration of a complete whole body treatment, and a detailed description of hand positions to use on one's self and others. There is considerable hands-on practice in giving and receiving Reiki at this level. 16 hours. Prerequisite: None
REIKI II
Reiki II Logo
The 2nd Degree training includes two more tunings. Reiki II goes beyong level I to increase your attunement to the flow of Reiki. Level II teaches three symbols to increase ki flow to self and clients, work on thought patterns/habits, and time-line or absentee work. At this level, the student can give a treatment in about half the time it takes on the first level. 12 hours. Prerequisite: Reiki I
REIKI III

Reiki III LogoReiki III is a furthering of the work of levels I and II, with a strong emphasis on increasing the connection to powerful flows from the upper levels of the HEF (Human Energy Field). Modern physics show us that matter and energy are inerchangable, this course addresses how to bring energy into matter. Attunements and techniques cause energy to run from the divine field of the HEF to the physical field. We will learn these symbols and techniques. Kundalini/chakras symbol, Inner Fire symbol and self-energizer breathwork, Sui Ching purification, Microcosmic Orbit, Hu Yin & Kidney Breathwork, the Daikomyo symbol and its application in a total body session for self or client. 8 hours. Prerequisite: Reiki I & II

REIKI Classes for Kidz & Youth

Reiki for Kidz! ImageFor ages 6 to 12 and for ages 13 to 17. Many parents who take Reiki classes also want their children to learn Reiki. These classes are offered for that purpose. Reiki classes for Kidz and Youth will be different from classes for adults, in respect of the unique, joyful, playful way kids like to learn, and mostly because classes for adults are focused on providing training that would allow the adult to open a private practice as a Reiki practitioner charging fees to the public. Reiki for Kidz and Youth recognizes and focuses on the idea that the Reiki training will be for ability to practice Reiki on themselves, friends, and family members. Classes are sperated into age groups in recognition of the learning abilities and styles of the differing age groups. Each class will be one day only, shorter hours yet will be the "equivalent" of Reiki Level I.
Karuna Reiki

Karuna (The Path of Compassion) is a Sanskrit word meaning "compassionate action". The word "humane" implies a heartfelt response to the suffering of others... we want to add to the healing of another. The word "healing" comes from a more ancient word meaning "to make whole again." As we help others, both ourself and the one helped become more whole, more complete. All benefit. Compassion action is a tenet of most human beliefs. Worldwide humans look up to those who are compassionate. We tell stories of those who live now and lived before our time who are examples of compassion. Karuna Reiki works with compassionate beings who are physically present as well as those in spirit. We ally ourselves to those whose compassion can and does sway us toward wholeness in body, mind and spirit.

The base for Karuna Reiki is Tibetan Reiki and Usui Reiki. A few examples of what Karuna techniques facilitate are: soul level healing, focus and grounding, ancestors and future, delusion/denial/resistance, blending of the physical with the spiritual.

Exploring Auras
Aura Logo
Many artists have drawn pictures of the human aura showing its anatomy and indicating energy in action. This class provides a visual feast through the use of a slide show of these visionaries’ views of the aura. It is accompanied by lecture designed to stimulate your ability to think about and envision energy. There will be colored slides projected onto class members showing how an individual’s aura relate to color. 4 hours. Prerequisite: None
Chakras & the Aura (Levels 1 & II)

Chakra Symbol The aura is a bio-magnetic field surrounding the human body. It acts as a barometer of a person’s state of being. The chakras are gateways within the aura, governing qualities such as a sense of security, creativity, self-esteem, connectedness, confidence, understanding and compassion You will learn how to feel and measure the aura and the chakras and to identify discord and density. You will also learn over a dozen ways to change the energy field and the chakras by using the hands, heart and mind to restore harmony and create integration. Beginning & Advanced students. Scheduling this class early on in your studies is best, but not a requirement. This class is offered over two weekends, Levels I and II. 16 hrs. each.
Chakras III: The Chakras in Depth
Chakra Symbol
This is an advanced course focusing in-depth on each chakra individually. This course is recommended for graduates of Chakras & Auras I & II and practicing healers who are already familiar with advanced energy work. We will cover deep internal spiritual methods of moving blockages, indepth "physical" structure of each chakra, and work with Spirit Doctors and Ascended Beings. 16 hrs.
Therapeutic Touch

Therapuetic TouchTherapeutic Touch recognizes the ability to heal is innate in everyone. It is gentle, powerful, and non-invasive and is being used increasingly both inside and outside the medical profession. "Touch" has been proved effective in treating wounds and infections, headaches, and other stress-related disorders. It strengthens and quickens the body’s own healing resources, gives comfort to the terminally ill, soothes fretful babies, helps in childbirth and all other circumstances where there is distress or pain. Using graceful sweeping motions of the hands, you learn to assess the flow of body energy, and replenish the flow of body energy, release congestion and restore balance. Beginning & Advanced students. No prerequisite.
Somatic Theory & Practice: Body Symbology, Body/Brain Development, Movement "Language"

Your body is a storehouse of information about you. Your body can be looked at as a mirroring device to show your unconscious thoughts and feelings. Each part of you is symbolic. For example, the stomach mirrors the inability to handle events or situations—distress with timing and order ("I can’t stomach that.") Diseases also are symbolic of certain "dis-ease" with life. For example, difficulties with arthritis can be seen as blockages in flexibility and tolerance and probable hidden anger. This is a great course for therapists and bodyworkers. You will learn body and disease symbology. Study the development, movement and shape of the body—beyond the theories of body language. Use movement to release the hidden strictures which bind you. Beginning & Advanced students. No prerequisites. 16 hrs.
Crystal & Gemstone Healing

Crystal & Gemstone Image This intensive workshop will build a hefty resource of information and experience in the ancient art of healing with stones. You learn the traditional shamanistic method of directly experiencing the stones as "living," able to communicate their purpose for being and their specific role with the person receiving healing. You learn the use of crystals and gems individually and in grids on the human body. Also you learn grids on paper for attracting results in your life such as abundance. Beginning and Advanced students. No prerequisites. It helps to know a little about the chakras and the aura.
KO-LAIM-NI

KO-LAIM-NI LogoKo-Laim-Ni (pronounced ko-lame-nee) is the name of an ancient healing technique that means "connecting with the light." Based on the principle that light and energy can change physical matter, Ko-Laim-Ni uses the body’s own vibrations to heal illness and discord. It uses gentle motions in the body’s energy flow and realigns you to a deep spiritual rest and restoration somewhat like the effects of deep sleep. In addition to giving physical healing, it relieves fatigue, provides comfort from mental and emotional stress, and makes you more spiritually aware of life and the environment. Some specific techniques learned are absentee healing, increasing energy level, working on groups, and producing joy. Ko-Laim-Ni places both the giver and receiver in a relaxed, pleasant state. Beginning & Advanced students. No prerequisites. 16 hrs.
Osmotic Healing

Osmotic Healing LogoOn Easter 1988, Sue heard Christ speak to her aloud. He said to write down exactly what He said. What He revealed was the system of Osmotic healing. For one year, she worked to integrate Osmotic energy into the Earth’s sphere, then began to teach the techniques to one person at a time. Slowly, she began to teach small groups. The Osmotic technique teaches you to work as a medium, or "step-down transformer" for Christed Beings. These Beings create karmic-level healing in the muscles, bones, cells, etc., of this and past lives. It works from the cellular body and the light bodies. Both the client and practitioner can feel the definite, powerful effects of this transformative healing. Advanced students. 10 hrs.
Pranic Healing & Free Form Auric Healing

Pranic & Auric Healing ImagePranic Healing teaches you to increase your connection to the Universal "Powerhouse" and to direct primal energy into the aura for specific results. In this class, you learn the various ways to produce specific flows of energy using different finger and hand movements. There is some discussion and teaching of the use of projected colors. You learn how to get the aura to "feel like taffy" so you can pull negative energies out of the client’s various auric bodies. Pranic Healing is extremely powerful, precise and effective. Advanced students. Pre-requisites: Chakras and the Aura, or some prior experience in working with the human energy field. 16 hrs.
The Natural Process: Redecisioning Based on Inner Vision

Redecisioning Based On Inner VisionThere is a natural sequence to our growth on Earth as learned by all Near-Death Experiences (NDE) which results in an Assignment. Learn to hold the perfection of Oneness in everyday life and become conscious of your process without the trauma of a NDE. Also learn to use this natural process as a powerful healing tool for relationships and physical pain. Beginning & Advanced students. No prerequisite.
Guided Imagery

Guided Imagery ImageGuided Imagery is a useful technique in the healing process. Numerous, medically based studies have proved its effectiveness. A practitioner who can offer guided imagery brings an amazing skill to each session to enhance their ability to help their clients. While we are not talk therapists, we can offer the client further ease for their mind and body. This class will provide students with a variety of dialogues they can use to assist a client’s relaxation and healing process. Imagery is an amazing tool that utilizes the power of one’s mind to achieve desired physical and emotional results. It can stimulate all of our senses - sight, sound, smell, taste and feeling. What the mind/body believes to be true creates physiological responses which help to encourage healing. 8 hours. Prerequisite: None
