Nabu - Angel of Inner Reflection

Nabu is God’s official scribe of the Book of Fate, which holds the master blueprint for each person’s life. In the Book of Fate, Nabu records our conduct... not only what we actually do, but all the choices we could have made. Nabu sees both the potentials we saw, and those we didn’t even have a clue about.

Nabu is a very ancient Babylonian word meaning, “one who speaks by divine inspiration to express the will of God.” However, in his function as God’s scribe Nabu never tells us what to do, he simply reflects our options and our actions. He is like a mirror that records our beauty and our flaws. His skin has a mirrorlike quality, like a lake in which we can see ourselves reflected.

As a scribe, his function is to set into form. A human scribe would set in writing or pictographs what needs to be held in consciousness for future remembrances. The best of scribes record without personal judgement, making sure circumstances or events are recorded plainly, clearly, and factually. Nabu is a true servant of God, performing his function without imprinting anything of himself onto our record. The Sumerians, in their theosophy, called Nabu “the angel of the Lord.”

While it might seem that a book or a quill would be an appropriate symbol for Nabu, his emblem is the lamp. A lamp lights the way that human eyes might be more able to see and make sense of what is before them. It is not just the recording of our actions in our life that is important, it is the recording of how we understand our life and our responses toward ourself and others. In a sense, to have human life is to have opportunity to be inspired by the highest, the Divine, to choose to express a higher, godlike consciousness.

Nabu's Message and Meditation

This is a meditation to help you become calmer and less ruffled by pending choices. If you are not even sure about what is facing you as a choice, as you become internal and reflective your opportunities, options, and obstacles will become clearer to you.

Being this meditation by counting your breathing. Take long, comfortable inhales and exhales of the same count, with equal count lapses between them. For example, inhale, one two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight; hold one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, then cycle over again. Spend about one minute focusing on this calming, comfortable breathwork pattern.

Then imagine yourself going down some steps into a small room. The room has cool walls of stone. It is lit at the back of the room by a simple lamp on a table. Beside the lamp is a pewter bowl of water and a mirror, both are very smooth and reflective. As you look at these items, one in particular will draw your attention. Its reflective qualities will help you be just as still, just as smooth and calm.

Finally, in its reflective surface, you may be able to see current or future events unfolding. As you continue to watch, you will probably see more than one path of possible action unfolding.

Nabu encourages you to be reflective, to hold steady, become clam, bring the light of understanding into your heart. Lighting a lamp of inner reflection helps us find the Path, see the truths of our life’s journey. Nabu invites us to develop your connection and understanding of your options, the higher, finer choices for your life. Then, when you can see what is clear and correct about your actions, without the clousidness of interpretation or emotional tangles, you will be ready to act. You are at the beginning of something new. New things should not be begun, however, without a steady look at where you have been and what you learned from those experiences. This “overview” of life is Nabu’s gift.

Return to this meditation several times during the next day and night. Each time you do it, you will see new pathways and probable outcomes. Then, when you have seen several options, consider choosing the one that seems to be the highest, most healing choice for yourself and others.
